Adam Lambert

One of the more interesting persons who appears to be in the running for American Idol this year, is a guy named Adam Lambert. One of my problems with some of the past contestants is that, yes they could sing, but having the pipes just isn't enough for a show like American Idol. It needs something else. Sometimes it's called charisma or personality, and unfortunately a lot of the previous people on idol just didn't have that. They were either blah, or worse than that, there was something about them that I just couldn't seem to like. I mean, I'm sure they were nice people and all, but sometimes you just get a strange feeling from watching someone perform, and already that person annoys you, or you know that that person'll eventually annoy you, given enough time.

From what I've read, it seems that Adam Lambert doesn't quite suffer from this. Well, actually, the jury's still out on whether he'll be annoying. In fact, I've seen a couple of posts from people who actually already do find him annoying (Uh oh.), but then again I've also seen posts from people who think this guy could really have a shot at being the next Idol, or at least of going deep into the competition. What he doesn't seem to suffer from though is a lack of personality. I particularly like the whole glam rock, gothic kind of vibe that I get from some of his pictures. There's eyeliner a plenty, and maybe American Idol could use a bit more eyeliner on guy to spice things up.

So Adam Lambert clearly isn't at all afraid to be out there, and to put his personality forward (He doesn't appear to at all be camera shy either.). Some of the photos I've seen seem to also show that the guy knows how to dress which if true will come in handy in the competition either (I can't even begin to tell you how crazily frustrated I am when, in previous seasons, one of my favorites went out on the stage in something either truly horrendous, or completely blah.). The guy also probably knows how to perform as he's been in at least two Broadway productions, as far as I've been able to figure out.

So I'm sure performing on stage in musicals'll come in handy for Adam Lambert. Of course, performing on stage flanked by dozens of other performers is completely different compared to performing on stage all on your own, except for the band behind you, and with the knowledge that you're about to be critiqued by big names in the music business. Still, there's a good chance that the musical experience'll probably help the guy, so I'll be looking out for hints of this in any of his American Idol performances.

Adam Lambert. Eyeliner. Goth guy. Coming soon.
